Oakland Art District Receives $2M Investment for Local Business Development

The Oakland City Council announced a $2 million investment in the Temescal Arts District, marking one of the city's largest recent commitments to local creative economy development.

The funding is planned for grants, workspace support, and business development programming for more than 50 local artists and creative businesses. Organizers expect the program to prioritize independent operators that need lower-cost space and hands-on support.

Local business advocates said the investment is designed to keep creative businesses rooted in Oakland while bringing more foot traffic to surrounding storefronts.
